Chapter 21 Summary

Yoda picks Tyler and Hannah up for school. Hannah whips off her t-shirt almost immediately, revealing a skimpy shirt underneath. Yoda almost drives over the curb trying to catch a peek. Tyler asks Hannah whether their father is being even more of a jerk than usual; Hannah reveals that their mother said Bill might get fired.

Chapter 22 Summary

Due to the hot weather, all of the girls at school are scantily clad, causing Tyler to observe, “[b]efore the first bell of the day rang, most guys were semiconscious with lust and most girls were ready to slap someone” (62).

Chapter 23 Summary

Tyler is disappointed to see Bethany is not in homeroom. He has a momentary pang of empathy for Chip when he recalls a rumor that Mr. Milbury does not allow Chip to bring home any grade below a 95. Tyler has his own difficult grades to contend with when Mr. Salvatore gives him a zero on his bluffed-through paper on Paradise Lost. He has a new deadline of forty-eight hours to write a paper “that proved I read it” (63).
