Activity

Use this activity to engage all types of learners, while requiring that they refer to and incorporate details from the text over the course of the activity.

“Life Scenario Skit: Act Out the Rules”

In this activity, students will construct and perform a skit to explain how they would use the “10 Rules for the Ride of Your Life” to assist in a scenario at home or at work.

Before George met Joy on the Energy Bus, his life was in shambles. George’s wife had threatened to leave him, and George was having difficulties at work as well.

  • In a group of 3-5 classmates, use George’s example to create your own scenarios of troubling work or life experiences.
  • Brainstorm a list of 8-10 scenarios. Then confer on the possibilities and choose one to treat as the subject of a skit in which you show how the “10 Rules” might address the problem.
  • In your skit, provide a short example of each rule and demonstrate how the rules help bring harmony to your scenario.
  • Refer to the book as needed for ideas on how the rule might work in your scenario.

Rehearse with your group as time allows, then present your skit to the class.

Teaching Suggestion: Consider assigning students to groups or allowing them to select their own groups in which to collaborate on the skit.
