When Lake gets home, Kel tells her that their mother asked her to order pizza. Lake asks where their mother is, but Kel doesn’t know. She searches Julia’s room and finds a love poem, which she deems poorly written. She then orders pizza. Julia arrives and comments on Lake’s irritation. Lake comments that she doesn’t keep secrets, implying that her mother does.
The power goes out overnight, and Lake and Kel find themselves late for school. Lake sees Will’s car in his driveway and realizes Will and Caulder are likely still asleep. She bangs on their windows to wake them. Will appears, flustered. Lake offers to drive Caulder to school and prepares Pop-Tarts in Will and Caulder’s kitchen. In the end, she is late to school and skips her first period. Eddie produces makeup for her. Will mouths a “thank you” to Lake in poetry class. Lake points to his tie, which is underneath his shirt; he corrects it. Eddie notices the exchange.
At lunch, Eddie, Gavin, Nick, and Lake discuss logistics for their group date that night. Nick answers Eddie’s question about where Lake lives, explaining that she lives on Mr. Cooper’s (Will’s) street; Eddie notes this.
