Harry and Hermione are devastated after Ron’s departure, and Harry hears Hermione crying at night. He begins to feel hopeless like he is on a “meandering, pointless journey” (313) and he let his friends down. He expects Hermione to leave him as well, but she stays. They disguise themselves as Muggles on Christmas Eve and enter the graveyard where Harry’s parents are buried. They discover the graves of Dumbledore’s mother and sister, along with a strange grave with “a triangular mark beneath the nearly illegible name” (327) that looks like the same symbol in Hermione’s book.
